Hi. It sounds like the first loom you describe may be a counter-balanced loom. I'm a fairly new weaver (about 4 years) and have a counter-balanced and a jack loom. If you'll email me a picture, I may be able to give you some advice if no one else with more experience comes through on this discussion board. I just did this for a friend of mine who was having problems getting a shed large enough to pass a shuttle through. Phyllis
