Sounds like you're getting a little too much twist in the fiber. You need the twist to hold the fiber together but too much is not a good thing.

If your spinning the yarn ok, but the problem that your describing is happening when you try
to take your yarn off the spindle, you may need
to "set" you yarn. Here's a site that
