Just wanted to thank Penn for openning up this conversation and pasting in the link to Elkhorn Mountain Weaving. I hadn't been to the site in quite awhile (ever?) and am really enjoying the background reading.

Funny that everyone is downsizing: since I missed the boat on purchasing a used Cranbrook, big looms is all I can think about! And the Glimakra Ideal is aesthetically pleasing to my personal eye. The comments about actually sitting down to try treadling and working with different looms is highly relevant, especially at different warp densities.

So thanks again for also making me open my eyes to really consider what I want to weave and to purchase an appropriate type of loom. (Okay I'll be real - I'm more into buying looms and looking at them as furniture than into actual weaving but I always think these kids of mine will grow up some day! And I realized thanks to the Elkhorn site that the noise of my jack-style with steel heddles will just be a fact of life I have to accept.)
