Hello Judy,

Thanks very much for asking whether I'd considered rear-hinge treadles, because you made me realize I'm guilty of prejudgment on the whole topic and have to do some homework. See, I have bum knees, and the concept of rear-hinge treadles brought to mind a person with her thighs scrunched up against the cloth beam, exerting a lot of pressure on her knees when she treadled. That hurt just thinking about it. When I read your post, I realized I've never actually seen anyone use one of them, and that each loom model differs in its operational ease anyway. What's awkward in the design execution of one maker's looms might be done quite a different way in another's. As I said in my response to Beth, I am planning to visit The Mannings next month, and will try out some of their looms to get a better sense of what works for me.

Thank you for making this suggestion. It's opened up another line of possibilities!
