I was looking up alternative means/homemade plans for a drum carders, and I ran across this website http://www.runningmoonfarm.com/
instructionals/board.html They have instructions on how to use a "carding board", which looks to me like a length of drum carder cloth fixed to a board, using a flick/hand card across it to make the batt. I found a company that sells carding cloth, Howard Brush: http://www.howardbrush.com/drumcards.html. They sent me some free samples. I also learned that they'll cut your cloth to your requirements, (the largest width available is 12') and they sell it by the liner foot. So, if you bought 25 inches of the 90 PSI cloth, you'd be out approximately 100 bucks and change, much less than a 300 or 400 dollar investment. I think I might go with this, at least until I have the engineering specs down for the drum carder. I know there's been several posts about homemade drum carder instructions, but I am wary of their vagueness. I'm a step by step, big-pictures-in-technicolor kind of gal :)
