There is no way around the vigorous treadling. Going to a large flyer unit changes the ratio a lot and that's just the way it is!! As for the rubbing noise, try having someone else sit at the wheel and treadle it slowly for you. That way you can get down on the floor and really look and listen closely to it. After you are certain what is rubbing you can try making small adjustments to the alignment of whatever parts seem to be the problem. Good luck!!
