I've woven a lot with acrylic, mostly the fine, 2/24 and 2/30 threads for machine knitting. These have enough texture that the ends don't worm out. You may be using sport weight acrylic knitting yarn and weaving rather loosely to keep it soft to the touch. Setting acrylic too close can make it board-like after washing, especially the cheap stuff. Try doubling the selvedges for 2 or three ends - single in the heddles (1-1,2-2), doubled in the reed (2 per dent). That might give the warp more grip on the tails and keep them in position.
