Thanks laralee, I'll look at the weavers friend and see what's there.
I found the Union Loom instruction manual at

as well as a number of other fiber art documents, including manuals. so others here might want to check it out of they haven't done so previously.
The pics in the manual are not detailed enough to answer all my questions, so I think I'll have to see if I can find a weaver in the Charlotte, NC area that has one of these set-up and is willing to let me take a look of theirs in action.
