Laurie,
I have owned a Harrisville and still own several LeClercs. The 8 shaft loom no matter what kind if it is a Jack loom can be hard to treadle. The macomber (all except the baby mac) are set up for somewhat easier treadling because of the way the shafts rise. There are quite a few used around.....The larger the weaving width the harder the tie up is, but I had an 8 shaft 45" and once the tie up was done the treadling on it was easier than any of my other wider looms. The shed is good also. The harrisville in that the whole loom is generally more light weight does treadle easier, but it depend on what you want to weave.. if you ever want to put on a rug the harrisville is not heavy enough for that use. I don't know much about the Louet. I know texolve heddles and I have them on my 16 shaft AVL. Sliding them for threading is not a problem. The problem with them is the eyes move so you have to use a heddle hook for threading and I prefer to thread by hand. Hope this info helps. Boston Weavers guild should have a variety for you to try. You might also want to consider renting a loom from a local guild to try or see if there is a workshop you can take that is a round robin to try a bunch of different ones. Good luck and happy weaving. Sharon (weaveteach@cox.net)
