I salute your idea of building looms - more power to you! A couple things come to mind: the Foxfire Books (documenting mountain folk's skills and traditions) had information in one of their earlier volumes about how to build a loom. I don't know which one, but you may be able to find it.
Secondly, here are a couple websites I recently ran across with plans for looms: http://www.allfiberarts.com/cs/loombuilding.htm, and http://www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/webdocs/df1_loom.pdf. You may find a surprising amount of info just by doing a web-search for 'loom plans' or 'loom build.'
