Hi Leslie - I also offer my best wishes for your recovery. I feel awkward offering 'advice' in such a situation, but I can honestly and very strongly recommend Chinese medicine to assist with your healing. I am a springboard and platform diver (the flips & twists kind) as well as a dyer, spinner and weaver, and have put myself through more injuries than I would like to confess to in my sport, including a fractured vertebra in my neck. Chinese medicine (that is, acupuncture and herbal medicine in combination) has been a very successful tool to help me stay healthy - so much so that ten years ago I left my previous career and became an acupuncturist and herbalist. This medicine can help minimize pain, and can very effectively help restore healing processes in injured tissues.
If this approach interests you, I would advise getting in touch with a school of oriental medicine in your area (do a web-search for 'acupuncture college' and pick one close to you), and phone them for a recommendation of a good practitioner. If you aren't able to find a local college, get in touch with New England School of Acupuncture (the top in the nation) - they have graduates all over the world.
All the best,
David
