Mark, I have one of these wheels and would also like to learn more about it. Last spring, I bought the contents of a weaving studio which included the wheel. The woman who owned the equipment was elderly and her daughter conducted the sale, so I wasn't able to ask questions about it. It is a nice wheel, although a little modernistic-looking for my tastes! It works extremely well and has a clever tensioning device. Unfortunately, it came with only one bobbin but I recently found someone who can cut others for me.
I did see one of these wheels turn up on Ebay last fall; I seem to recall that it went in the $150 range.
Let me know what you find out ... I also would be curious to know who else has these wheels and what the background is.
