Can looms be cut down, to make them narrower?

It's probably an idiotic thing to contemplate, but I keep coming across looms that are very well priced, but just too wide for my space and needs. On my dinky table loom, all the important stuff seems to be on the right-hand side, pawls and ratchets and brake cable, etc. With Macombers in mind, I started wondering whether one could disassemble the left side of the loom piece by piece, cut the horizontal members to the desired width, refit any sockets or other hardware on the new ends, and screw it all back together. I'm probably overlooking something painfully obvious in this conjecture that would make doing it impossible, but I thought I'd float it and risk the embarrassment. Has anyone ever tried this, or know someone who did? Besides Red Green?
