You can find out a lot more info on the Union looms in the Rag Rug Handbook and also through it's author, Janet Meany (jmeany@weaversfriend.com).

Janet has manuals for these old looms (most build btwn 1920-1940) and it's neat to see the original documents. When we last e-mailed (Jan 2002), her address was: Janet Meany, Historic Looms of America, 5672 North Shore Drive, Duluth, MN. Sadly, I never followed up with a subscription to her insightful and entertaining "Weaver's Friend" newsletter after buying several years worth at one time.

We too purchased a Union Custom 45" up here in Wisconsin several years ago. It's missing a few pieces so I've never woven on it. But I would be interested in exchanging photos, especially to figure out what's missing (something in the warp advancement system).
