Mim,

A lot of shop owners feel threatened when a new shop opens in their area.
My wife owns A Weavers Yarn in Fairbanks Alaska.
I doubt you will be competing for our walkin traffic.

We also do mail orders. Some of our customers live in remote parts of the state.

Feel free to email me your questions or post them here. (I check the list about once a week).

We did three years of market research before opening our store. We also moved from North Pole to Fairbanks becuase our prospective customer base would not make the drive to our original (planned) location.

The post by ispin2weave is accurate about using your local small business administration. We have taken all the courses offered, some of them more than once.

Good luck with the shop,
Martin
