I've had that very same thing happen to me before. I don't know what the "books say," but what I've done before is just tie another warp thread on to the broken thread and continue warping as usual. When I come to the knot in my weaving, I decide at that time if I want to cut the knot out and use a replacement warp thread (like I would if I had broken a thread during weaving). If you are doing a big bulky rug the knot you originally tied may not show....it's up to you if it needs replacing. That's my "unprofessional" opinion on how I would fix the problem. Happy Weaving!
