The palace of Hampton Court, situated by the side of the river Thames, Edward VI, on October 12 1537. Jane Seymour his mother died one week after giving birth and the baby was fostered by a nurse, Sibell Penn, who died of smallpox in 1568 and was buried at St Mary's Church. In 1829 the church was struck by lightening and had to be rebuilt, during which Sibell's bones were moved to another grave. Soon, strange noises, like the turning of a wooden wheel, could be heard emanating from one of the walls at Hampton Court where there was no associated room. When the wall was knocked down however, a spinning wheel was found, along with other items which indicated that the nurse used to live there. Many people have also seen her walking along the corridors of Hampton Court. She has been described as a tall, thin, hooded figure dressed in a grey robe and with her arms outstretched.
Ok does anyone know if pictures of this wheel are available? I take part in medieval and renaissance recreation and would love to reconstruct this wheel.
